Abstract:
A play. In front of an audience, stories, performances and live skype-connections. On stage interviews and talks were broadcast on environmental topics, memories, future development and tourism. Artists, poets, musicians, economists, civil right defenders and journalists of different countries in the Northern and Southern Caucasus took part in discussions by online transmissions. Memory-maps were created on the spot by the hosts/artists (Lado and Onno).
The recording of childhood memories was chosen as leitmotiv, as a means to instigate communication between the divided Caucasians. Directed by the information given by the guests, a map (model) was built on a table and in the hall. Slowly the scenery transformed, merging different Caucasus places into one city. Relentless development, even in an artistic way led to protest of the public. In Batumi the orientation was not the Northern vs. Southern Caucasus. The discussions were about the influence of the ‘umwelt’ on the region (in particular the new Turkish positions). This part of the event consisted of an exhibition of childhood maps and a forgotten museum collection of maps.
Mapping the Caucasus with You stems from the desire to begin a dialogue between the peoples of the Northern and Southern Caucasus. Due to the ongoing conflicts in the region there is very little information available to Caucasians – both as regards their own region as well as others. Even in the age of the global village, neighbouring countries, cities and villages in this part of the world remain disconnected. For years, many modes of communication were not possible. We, the people involved in this project, have decided not to wait for anyone else to restore connections, interpret facts or share stories, instead, we believe in the reinstatement of citizenship as a form of direct democracy, and define our roles as artists as including research and the production of knowledge. The project consisted of public events & exhibitions in Batumi and Tbilisi, and was carried out under support of Ajara Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and Georgian Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection.

ჩემი ბავშვობის მოგონებებზე დაყრდნობით შევქმენი ჩემი მშობლიური ქალაქ ქუთაისის რუქები და შემდეგ ფორუმების საშუალებით ჩრდილოკავკასიელებს დავუკავშირდი და ვთხოვე მოეწოდებინათ მათი ბავშვობის ისტორიები რუქებზე დასატანად. შედეგად მივიღე ადგილობრივი მაცხოვრებლების თვალით დანახული კავკასიის ქალაქების მრავალი რუქა. იგივე მეთოდის გამოყენებით ჩვენ ლადო დარახველიძე, ონო დირკერი, ლევან ასაბაშვილი, ანა რიაბოშენკო ვაპირებთ კავკასიის სხვადასხვა რეგიონში მცხოვრები ადამიანებისგან ინტერვიუს აღებას, პროგრამის განმავლობაში რომელიც გაიმართება 9, 10 მაისს თბილსში და 15,16 მეტ მაისს ბათუმში. ძირითადი შეკითხვებია: რა დარჩა ჩვენს მეხსიერებაში წარსულიდან? როგორ დაგვამახსოვრდა ის გარემო სადაც გავიზარდეთ? რა არის ახალი ჩვენი ქალაქის მახასიათებლები და სიმბოლოები? და როგორ წარმოგვიდგენია მომავლის კავკასიის ქალაქების კავშირები და ზოგადად კავკასიის მომავალი?
